A Reflection on Education

Intercultural communication in my understanding is a way where people with the same culture communicate even without words and still have the same understanding. It happens because they life in same place with the same evolution of people behaviour around them, so it makes them act the same way.

One of the example we can take from these concept is how japanese people do their study in school or university. After seeing the video, i realize that japanese and indonesian have a very different culture in these kind of things. Making a friend group to study together, sleeping in the library if they got tired (also seen as a sign of hardwork), and study almost the whole day, as indonesian i see this kind of method is "too far" if that make sense. In my country its true some of us study together, but its not happen that often, and if its happen then 80% of it is going to be just talking. Sleeping in the library will be the exact opposite, the librarian is going to wake us up and sometimes mad at us. I see life as balance and i dont think spending time too much on working and not having fun is a good lifestyle.

  1. I totally agree with you! Life should be in balance, and you shouldnt be spending too much time on working. I feel like in the Netherlands with studying together we would also only talk and yap with each other, except we would maybe also actually study (but that can be my personal opninion ;))

  2. The sleeping in the library thing is weird to me too. If I would be with friends in the library and someone would fall asleep he would get violated in ways God couldn't even comprehend because we think it's funny (and after the grogginess of waking up wears off they will think it's funny too).

  3. +1, I value my balance in studying/working and fun and so on, funny enough we also would do that if we tried to do a study group in the middle east because we will probably go back to having fun instead of getting any real work done.

  4. I agree with you Ali, it’s the same in Mexico, people just want to finish the requested job of the day and go have fun or get some rest, when we work as a team we work very hard and quickly so we can get some food/fun/rest. The japanese lifestyle sometimes feels like they live to work, they don’t work to live.
