A Reflection on Education

Intercultural communication in my understanding is a way where people with the same culture communicate even without words and still have the same understanding. It happens because they life in same place with the same evolution of people behaviour around them, so it makes them act the same way. One of the example we can take from these concept is how japanese people do their study in school or university. After seeing the video, i realize that japanese and indonesian have a very different culture in these kind of things. Making a friend group to study together, sleeping in the library if they got tired (also seen as a sign of hardwork), and study almost the whole day, as indonesian i see this kind of method is "too far" if that make sense. In my country its true some of us study together, but its not happen that often, and if its happen then 80% of it is going to be just talking. Sleeping in the library will be the exact opposite, the librarian is going to wake us up and som...

Cultural Diversity History

Seeing how different people react or act to the same thing in a very different ways, is somehow weird and new experience at the same time. This just make me realize that long time evolution, and environment just play a major effect on shaping people personality. For example as a foreign people in japan, knowing their working culture, is so hard for me to accept. It's because they take the concept of hardwork and respect a bit too far. I see life as a balance, and in japan life is about having a great job and respect the others. After seeing the video, few things that shocked me. First the workers didn't even take a shower or breakfast before going to work, and still manage to do a full time job with a lot of activities. Also they see age as a main factor of work hierarchy. Youngest people tends to do all the side job FOR THEM. In my culture, this kind of things considered as a sign of disrespect. Indonesia i would say have a pretty good working life balance eventhough we didn...

Cultural Perspective Awareness

Spending a long time abroad really opens your eyes to how diverse the world is. People do things in different ways, shaped by their environment, culture, and daily habits. In this week’s lesson, we talked about Cultural Perspectives , with a focus on Sleep and Rest . After watching the Sleep in Japan documentary, I noticed how different Japanese culture is from Indonesian culture when it comes to sleep. In Japan, people often sleep on trains or in public places due to their busy lifestyles. Sleeping at work, known as inemuri , is sometimes seen as a sign of hard work and dedication. In contrast, in Indonesia, sleeping during work hours or in public might be considered unprofessional or even lazy. However, both cultures do understand the importance of sleep. In Indonesia, people are encouraged to get 7–8 hours of rest to stay healthy and productive. Families often value a regular sleep schedule, and resting at home is more common than napping in public. Through this comparison, I’ve...
